Range Mech does not give better damage than melee Mech. But it has greater fire range than normal ranger. Melee Mech do have upgrade part at PT12 to have 100SP to run.

At Lvl41, Melee mech can run with 500SP and Range mech can have 10SP (yes, that's right, 10SP only)
Sounds like you know something about the black MAUs. Can you give us some stats on it?

How much HP? What's the damage on the first weapons? What's it's defense start at? Anything at all you can tell us about the black MAUs would be great.

Great guide, though I am unclear on 2 things. Can Ranger become driver, and if your mech dies, do you have to level it all over again when you buy a new one?
You dont level your mech, you level your characters skill at using mechs. So when your mech dies you dont loose your skill, because its saved to your character.

(The following information was gathered from the Taiwanese version)

*** TO GET A MECH YOU NEED LVL30 AND JOB CHANGE TO DRIVER ***

Firstly you start by purchasing a mechs ignition key from the Vendor found in the starting town, and also in Solus sector (third options on main teleporter).

There are two standard varities long range and close combat.

The standard mechs look as follows (click links):
Ranged: "Catapult Chassis"
Close Combat: "Goliath Chassis"

Next you need to purchase ammo for your new mech, regardless of which type you buy they BOTH require ammo. This is done via the "Repair/Upgrade" option on the same vendor.

Drag your ignition key from your inventory into the slot to bring up information relative to that mech. That pretty much covers your "first time buy" to get your mech up and running.

To use your mech simply right click its ignition key to summon it beside you, then Ctrl+Click the mech (just like you do to other players) to bring up the following option:

Any questions, feel free to ask.

you can get those across from the guy who sells mining eq. its also the same npc that sells maps, return items, and mission items. the bags cost ~ 20k tho. wen u buy it, right click on it in ur invintory to add it to ur bag list.

~EDIT~
Sar: can keys be traded so a spec can equip a warriors mech then trade it back?
